Mobile gaming has come a long way. In fact, smartphones in general have evolved to become far more than just the communication tools they were initially intended to be. We’re now seeing app development reach new heights and phones are more powerful than they ever have been. This has certainly elevated mobile gaming’s offering, although we have still been exposed to some painfully bad gaming products.
In a saturated gaming space, sometimes it can be hard to find the releases worth devoting yourself to. For every leading online casino game like Dynamite Fishing and every console-quality masterpiece like Fortnite, there are cash grabs, bug-filled products, and some simply terrible all-around offerings to avoid.
These horrific releases have failed spectacularly, from annoying consumers to receiving the bad analysis they frankly deserved.
While mobile gaming has clearly advanced to become one of the most enticing gaming opportunities in the modern environment, these poor products still need to be highlighted. So, with that in mind, below we remember some of the worst mobile games ever made.
Roller Coaster Tycoon 4
The classic example of a game that was probably best left to shine on other platforms, Roller Coaster Tycoon 4’s transition over to the mobile category of gaming didn’t go to plan.
A fantastic option on other platforms, the mobile adaptation was hammered by gaming audiences for numerous reasons. It forced players to spend money through in-app purchases, the wait times were frankly ridiculous, and so many core features were missing. Overall, it was a disaster.
Crime Boss: Rockay City
There has been a massive collection of games that have aimed to depict the criminal underworld in an accurate manner, and while some of them have managed to nail it, Crime Boss: Rockay City most definitely didn’t. From its alarmingly sloppy gameplay to its appalling voice acting, it’s a title that was filled with issues. A game that felt rushed and with a lack of planning and research behind it, Crime Boss: Rockay City bombed massively.
NFL Pro 2013
A title that fans of the NFL couldn’t wait to sample, NFL Pro 2013 turned out to be a massive letdown. A game that promised a lot but delivered very little, gamers were left frustrated by various elements in the game. The graphics were basic, the gameplay was a pain to grasp, and it all just felt a bit rushed. For football fans, in particular, this 2013 release was a massive disappointment.
Scarface
Over the years, we’ve been exposed to a number of games based on movies. A production many people regard as one of the finest ever, the Scarface game didn’t manage to achieve the same type of success as the movie did.
In fact, it was truly terrible. The game’s graphics were shockingly poor, its mechanics didn’t go down well, and it was just an all-around forgettable virtual escapade to embark on. While the movie served up action and plenty of tense scenarios, the game was a drab affair.
Pillowfight Girls
Unbelievably, someone out there actually thought Pillowfight Girls would thrive on mobile. It was a game where females wearing skimpy clothing would go up against each other in pillow fights; the title really was as bad as it sounds. The graphics were shoddy, the game’s misogynist premise upset a lot of people, and it was just an all-around horrifying release in more ways than one.
Kick-Ass: The Game
Like the aforementioned Scarface, Kick-Ass: The Game was clearly targeted at fans of the movie. In the end, though, they were all left angry by the game’s dated graphics, the title’s embarrassingly bad mechanics, and it’s terrible story.
